Venue Highlights
Built in 1887, the Queensland Heritage listed GPO Hotel is one of Brisbanes rarest examples of Victorian Italianate style architecture and one of Fortitude Valleys most recognisable landmarks. Operating as the Fortitude Valley General Post Office for over 100 years, the Post Office played a vital role within the community by providing essential telecommunication and postal services.
In 2002 the building's ornate façade was restored to its former glory and integrated with a radically stylish and modern urban interior. The GPO Hotel has since become a popular icon in the Brisbane nightlife scene. Its character, charm and functionality as a venue sees the GPO Hotel play host to a wide range of events including fashion shows, cocktail parties, conferences and product launches.
Location
The GPO is located in the heart of the Valley Special Entertainment Precinct. The GPO is surrounded by a mecca of restaurants, cafes, unique fashion boutiques, bars and other nightclubs, all within walking distance.
The GPO is a 5 minute cab ride from the centre of Brisbane and a 15 minute cab ride from the Brisbane Airport. Brunswick St Train Station is within a 2 minute walk and bus stops and taxi ranks are in close proximity to the venue. There is also a Kings parking facility directly across the road.
Accommodation
Although the GPO does not have accommodation facilities, there are a myriad of accommodation options to suit all budgets within walking distance including luxury hotels, self contained apartments and youth hostels.
Catering Information
The GPO has experience catering a variety of events including cocktail parties, banquets and conferences. The Chefs will provide a range of options to suit all budgets and tastes including platters, canapes, noodle boxes and petit fours for cocktail functions, traditional Christmas feasts and BBQ's for banquets and gourmet lunches with morning and afternoon tea for conferences.
